Dr. Kate Atabong Ndi, a Cameroonian-American humanitarian, President of the African Women’s Foundation USA Inc, and CEO of the Miss Africa USA Pageant, is taking a bold step to bring Human Rights education to the younger generation. In collaboration with Youth for Human Rights International, Dr. Kate launched an initiative to introduce children to their fundamental rights through the school system in the Gardens community of Limbe.
The United Nations Declaration of Human Rights outlines 30 basic rights, yet many children remain unaware of them. Recognizing this gap, Dr. Kate and her dedicated team of volunteers engaged with local schools during the month of February to teach students about these essential rights. Teachers were also equipped with educational tools to continue fostering awareness and understanding of Human Rights in their classrooms.
“My foundation is deeply committed to promoting Education as a basic Human Right,” Dr. Kate said. “When children learn to love, respect, and value one another from a young age, they grow up understanding their rights, living in peace, and upholding human dignity.”
The initiative also emphasized the importance of clean water access as a fundamental human right. Dr. Kate highlighted that safe, running water is essential for children’s health, hygiene, and their ability to receive a proper education.
The response from schools has been overwhelmingly positive. Teachers, administrators, and students expressed excitement and gratitude for being part of a program that not only educates but also empowers the youth.
Dr. Kate thanked Youth for Human Rights International for their support in making the program a reality and reaffirmed her commitment to expanding human rights education across Cameroon.
This initiative marks a significant step toward nurturing a generation of informed, compassionate, and rights-aware citizens—children who know they deserve to live with dignity, peace, and respect.
