The newly elected executive members of the North West Regional Assembly, who secured victory in the November 30 Regional Elections, were sworn into office on January 7, 2026.
In a solemn ceremony conducted with strict court protocol, they took an oath before the administration, led by the Government’s Representative, Governor Adolphe Lele Lafrique, the judiciary, presided over by the President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Nkengla, and the assembled population of the region.
Each of the eight executives pledged loyalty to state institutions and vowed to serve the people of the Northwest Region diligently.
Four of the eight executive members bring fresh perspective to the regional body, having won their seats in the November 2025 elections. The assembly also sees strengthened representation from traditional leaders. Notably, the 28-year-old President of the House of Chiefs, Fon Amidu Nji who also serves as Vice President of the Regional Assembly, and Fon Zofoa Abubaka Fuanfor as Secretary, is now part of the executive.
Expectations are high as the region looks to this new mandate to deliver on its pivotal role in decentralisation. The assembly is tasked with driving transformation and development across key areas including economic growth, health, culture, and sport, with various commissioners charged with delivering quality services.
The President-elect, Prof. Fru Angwafor III, stated that his team will prioritize community dialogue, local development projects, and involving youth in the digital economy.
A notable feature of the event was the presence of traditional rulers, including those who were not elected, demonstrating a strong spirit of collaboration. This unity aligns with the vision of their President, Fon Amidu Nji, who is committed to revitalizing the region’s culture in partnership with his colleagues.
