The Executive Board of the International Monetary Fund, IMF, has approved additional disbursements of FCFA 82 billion to Cameroon.
According to a press release of July 24, 2025, issued by the Minister of Finance, Louis Paul Motazé, following the IMF Board of Directors meeting of that same day, the financial institution concluded with satisfaction the latest reviews of the IMF-supported Economic and Financial Programme 2021-2025.
The Minister stated that the July 24 session was the eighth review under the Extended Credit Facility, ECF, and the Extended Credit Mechanism, ECM, and on the other hand, the third review of the agreement supported by the Facility for Resilience and Sustainability, FRD.
The press release notes that, “The achievement of this major step in the framework of our cooperation with the IMF testifies to the recognition by the international financial community of the significant progress made by Cameroon at the instigation of the President of the Republic, H.E. Paul Biya, and the coordination of the Prime Minister, Head of Government, to strengthen the macroeconomic stability of the country and promote sustainable and inclusive economic growth.”
Motazé revealed that the additional FCFA 82 billion disbursements approved by the IMF Executive Board bring to nearly FCFA 570 billion all budget support received by Cameroon since the conclusion of the program. According to the financial experts, Cameroon thus achieved a very appreciable performance, despite a global context marked by persistent uncertainties.
“The Government wishes to express once again its deep gratitude to the IMF for its sound advice and continued financial support. This support was essential to the deepening of structural reforms thanks to the support of certain technical and financial partners, including the World Bank, the African Development Bank, the European Union, and the French Development Agency, to which the government expresses its gratitude,” the minister maintained.
Motazé stated that in line with the country’s National Development Strategy 2020-2030, the Cameroonian authorities reaffirm their commitment to continue efforts to consolidate macro-economic gains, improve the business climate, and fight poverty, as well as reforms to strengthen resilience to climate change.
