On October 31 in Yaounde, Cameroon’s Minister of the Economy, Planning and Regional Development, Alamine Ousmane Mey, met with a delegation from the Islamic Development Bank, IsDB, to discuss strengthening their collaboration.

The hour-long meeting identified several sectors for enhanced support, with a particular focus on humanitarian aid and development projects.

Dr. Ali Hamed AIGhamdi, the delegation head and a representative of the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KS-Relief), expressed optimism about the discussions.

“I am very pleased to have met with Minister Ousmane Mey and to receive messages that I can relay to plan future cooperation between our organizations and Cameroon,” he stated.

The dialogue covered critical areas such as education, healthcare, and other vital sectors requiring investment. Dr. AIGhamdi noted, “Our focus is on fostering support through our agencies to effectively address the needs of the Cameroonian people.”

Both sides acknowledged the existing partnership between the IsDB and the Cameroonian government, emphasizing the importance of maintaining a cordial and productive relationship. The delegation advocated for smarter financing approaches to maximise the impact of their interventions and avoid duplicating efforts. “We aim to create a ripple effect in our initiatives to better serve the communities in need,” they said.

This meeting marks a significant step in enhancing cooperation between Cameroon and the Islamic Development Bank, paving the way for impactful development initiatives in the country.
