The Director General of Elections at Elections Cameroon, ELECAM, Dr. Erik Essousse, has disclosed that Cameroonians, especially the electorate, can now have all their election-related questions or worries answered by simply dialing the toll-free line 1508.

He was speaking to the media shortly after presenting the newly built call centre within the precincts of ELECAM headquarters in Yaounde on August 11, 2025.

He declared that “communication is an important tool today to reach out to the population particularly the electors. That is why we have put in place this call centre which is available 24 hour on 24 and 7 days on 7 till the end of the forthcoming presidential election.

“I think we shall be able to answer to all the questions and worries on the electoral process, notably: registration, voter’s cards, polling stations, and so on, as well as every other useful aspect as we now move towards concrete actions. We are very satisfied with this opportunity to keep the electorate informed,” he stated.

From where ELECAM drew the inspiration, Dr. Essousse said; “We are in a modern world today, and that the call centre is a key tool to keep stakeholders of the electoral process informed. “And as professionals, you know we must communicate and to do that we have to exploit the modern tools of a call centre including the use of artificial intelligence,” he maintained.

On whether ELECAM copied the initiative from another country that succeeded, the Director General of Elections said the call centre on the electoral process is their (ELECAM’s) invention.

The call centre launched since 2018 is coming to boost the digital platform of ELECAM in addition to the institutions education and sensitisation of the public on electoral processes through specialised radio and television programmes.
