Prime Minister Chief Dr. Joseph Dion Ngute, has described the massacre of innocent Mbororo citizens at Gidado, Mbandfung Quarter of the Ndfung Fondom in Ndu Subdivision, as “horrendous.” The attack took place on January 14.

The Prime Minister, who referred to the perpetrators as “messengers of doom,” was speaking to the press on January 19, 2026, after receiving a delegation from the Mbororo Social and Cultural Development Association (MBOSCUDA), led by its National President.

Fourteen people, including a two-year-old child and a 72-year-old woman, were killed during the attack. Many others were wounded, cattle were rustled, and property was destroyed. It is reported that one of the victims later died while receiving treatment in hospital, bringing the death toll to 15.

Speaking after the meeting with the MBOSCUDA delegation, Dion Ngute told reporters: “It is with great sadness that I receive this important delegation, led by the President of the Mbororo Social and Cultural Development Association.

“This meeting follows the horrendous attack on Gidado in the early hours of January 14, 2026 – an attack that claimed 14 innocent lives, and which has caused immense tribulation and suffering within many families.

“The New Year is generally a time of rejoicing that we have seen another year. Yet, messengers of doom decided to inflict such horrendous destruction on lives and property, burning houses and killing the cattle of innocent citizens.

“Therefore, it is with deep sadness that I receive you. I was informed that morning and immediately instructed that condolences be conveyed to the families, and that we wish a full recovery to those in hospital,” he stated.

For his part, the National President of MBOSCUDA, Adamou Amadou, said the delegation had come to express their grief to the Prime Minister over the ongoing crisis, in which Mbororos are being massacred, maimed, and dispossessed of their cattle and property.

He explained that a few days ago, attackers went to Gidado and slaughtered 14 people, including a two-year-old baby and a 72-year-old woman—the mother of a Muslim leader who was killed a few months earlier.

“The killings did not start today. They began in 2016, some ten years ago, and the first victims were the Mbororos. It is still ongoing. So we are tired, even though we have reassured the government of our desire to continue to fight for peace and security in our country,” Adamou stated.

He added that the Prime Minister’s words had touched their hearts. “You know, sometimes you need to hear something that will calm you down. Otherwise, you could die from the stress. So the kind words from the Prime Minister have calmed us,” he told the press.

Despite the pressure, he said, the Mbororo people remain determined to continue working to preserve peace, even as they pay a heavy price. He also praised the government for caring for the victims of the attack who have been admitted to health facilities.
