The Senator for Momo Division, Honourable Enwe Francis Abi, has achieved another milestone by convincing eight Amba fighters to lay down their arms and enter the Disarmament, Demobilisation, and Rehabilitation (DDR) Centre in Bamenda.

About three years ago, Senator Enwe vowed to continue sensitisation efforts to “empty Amba” from Widikum in Momo, as well as the wider Northwest and Southwest Regions. True to his word, he has not relented. To date, he has facilitated the surrender of over 50 Amba fighters from the forests of Widikum in Momo Division.

During a recent public gathering in Widikum, where eight ex-combatants were presented to the community, Senator Enwe emphasised that this time, the former fighters are seeking reconciliation, both with God and with the victims of their actions. The Amba fighters took turns apologising to families of those they had killed or kidnapped, pleading for forgiveness.

The armed conflict over the past nine years has claimed an estimated thousands of lives in the region. Senator Enwe and local Widikum administrators assured the surrendered fighters of their safety, stating unequivocally that “nobody will harm them.”

Among all senators and parliamentarians, Senator Enwe stands alone in matching words with action. Undeterred by challenges, he dedicates his time and resources to liberating communities from the grip of Amba militants.
