A Journey from Telecommunications To AI
My journey began in 1999 as a young Cameroonian undergraduate student studying Telecommunications Engineering in Russia. At the time, Africa was already trailing in the digital revolution. Access to advanced technologies was limited, and the gap with developed economies was widening. In 2008, during my PhD research at Michigan State University, I began working in Machine Learning, the foundation of modern AI. My first research publication in AI came in 2010, where we applied machine learning to solve a complex industrial problem in the automotive sector. At the time, AI was largely academic. Today, it is everywhere. From finance and healthcare to energy and manufacturing, AI is now driving efficiency, innovation, and measurable economic value. I have witnessed this evolution firsthand; from research labs to real-world impact, including my work as a former NASA Engineer and now as a Senior AI Predictive Analytics professional with Siemens Energy, Inc.in the United States of America.
Why The WTO Summit Matters for Africa
The WTO MC14 Business Forum in Yaoundé comes at a time when digital trade and emerging technologies are becoming central to global economic discussions. This is Africa’s chance to:

Africa has long struggled to keep pace with previous industrial revolutions. Limited infrastructure and late adoption often placed the continent at a disadvantage. But AI changes the equation.
