The Ministry of Transport has ordered the immediate immobilization of 13 passenger buses belonging to seven transport agencies following inspections that revealed serious technical defects endangering passenger safety.
The suspension order, signed by the Minister Delegate Njoya Zakariou on February 10, 2026, was made public by the Ministry this March as part of the special road safety and prevention campaign launched on December 15, 2025.
Inspections carried out by the Ministry’s services on December 31, 2025, identified several vehicles with critical mechanical failures that violate safety regulations. The affected vehicles will remain immobilized “until they are brought into compliance,” the Ministry said.
The suspended vehicles include BUCA Voyages’ CE 734 KQ and CE 131 KA; Dynamique Express’ SU 903 AX and CE 487 OW; Transcam Voyages’ NO 221 AF and LT 950 NE; Nso Boyz’ LT 419 JP and LT 444 KE; Afo-A-Kom Express’ LT 217 HP and CH 033050; Elegance Prestige VIP’s CE 703 OZ; and ‘s CH-346825 and CH 125791.
The Ministry’s action highlights prolonged concerns about Cameroon’s transport sector, where decades of lax import regulations have resulted in a market dominated by outdated, and high-emissions vehicles.
Many passenger transport vehicles operating in the country are aged, poorly maintained, or operating with compromised components.
Transport safety experts warn that vehicles with serious technical defects significantly increase the risk of accidents, endangering the lives of passengers and other road users.
Aside from safety concerns, such vehicles contribute disproportionately to carbon emissions due to their age and lack of modern emission control systems.
The Ministry has not indicated how long the suspension will last; stating only that the vehicles must be brought into compliance before they can resume operations.
